The cocoon silk fabric (or ‘koukouliariko’) comes from the Greek village Soufli, that has a rich history in silk production. In its heyday it was the silk capital of the Balkans and produced and exported some of the finest silk in the world. Unfortunately, by the end of the 20th century many silk producers went out of business as a result of competition from China. Lately there have been initiatives to revive the manufacturing of silk, notably by A. Mouhtaridis. It is his company ‘Silkline’ that produces the ‘koukouliariko’ silk fabric that we are so fond of. It comes in black and off-white and has a unique, soft texture and sheen, making it an excellent choice for a chic look.
